California state highway 4 route marker. Up for sale today is this California state route 4 sign. Made to the exact standards as used between 1934 and 1940 along this historic highway.Highway 4 is one of the major crossings of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California, heading out of the Bay Area at Martinez into the foothills across Ebbetts Pass where it meets highway 89 around Markleeville and the Carson River. An original of these, complete with the diamond logo of the California State Automobile Association would cost many thousands of dollars if it ever came to the market. The sign is 5 1/4 by 17 inches, and weighs four pounds and two ounces. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection.
