The Imperial Coronation Egg is truly one of the most fanciful and well known of all the Imperial Eggs. Given by Czar Nicholas II to Empress Alexandra Fedorovna in 1897, on the first Easter following their Coronation. The egg itself is enameled a lustrous translucent gold on an engraved starburst field trellised with bands of laurel. Black enameled double-headed eagles of the Romanov family crest, set with Austrian Crystal are perched at each intersection. The color of the egg is taken from the gold ermine-trimmed robes worn by Their Imperial Majesties to their coronation. This egg is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, made with the finest materials, limited to only 450 pieces and sold for $3750

This limited edition egg is numbered 127 of 450 and is a testament to fine craftsmanship. The Minaudières, originating in the 19th century by Van Cleef, are the epitome of formal evening purses. In the mid-18th century, Fabergé revolutionized art quality and design, emphasizing craftsmanship and creativity over gem size. Vivian Alexander, inspired by this legacy, produces the world's finest minaudières, using fine silver, guilloche patterns, translucent enamels, and point backed Austrian crystals, that produce unparalleled fire and brilliance in each stone unlike typical rhinestones that are flat backed, they are also prong set so they are rarely dislodged from their settings. The interior is beautifully hand finished and lined with sand-washed silk. Included is a detachable, gold mesh shoulder strap that transform this object d’art into a dazzling minaudière for the most elegant of evenings.

This elegant evening purse, crafted with meticulous detail is suitable for the most prestigious occasions or simply as an object of fine art. It was never used, and is presented in excellent condition.

Alexander Caldwell, president of Vivian Alexander, was privileged to observe, measure, and photograph these historic objets of art. Alexander, accompanied by his modelers and sculptors, visited the Forbes Gallery in New York expressly to gain the knowledge to replicate these beauties in exact detail. The group was afforded a private viewing room and the assistance of the Forbes curator to carry out their enviable labours. The final works of art were presented to the Forbes family for their inspection and evaluation.

VA created two Fabergé Imperial Coronation Egg replicas especially for the Ocean's Twelve movie... one of which was later displayed in the Detroit Museum of Art for the Fabergé: The Rise and Fall exhibit. This egg was also loaned to The Romanoffs series on Amazon. The Romanoffs, is an anthology series centered around people who believe themselves to be the modern-day descendants of the Romanov family. The Romanoffs series will be aired on Amazon.

About Vivian Alexander:

In 1991 Alex Caldwell, after observing young ladies carrying small, stringy purses at a Xanadu Mardi Gras Ball, decided he could design a more elegant Minaudiere. He created a hard-sided evening purse, made with an ostrich egg, Austrian jewels and golden findings. The response was overwhelming. He named the new business Vivian Alexander, using his, and his girlfriend's first names. After becoming a master at enameling guilloche he was invited to the Forbes Museum in New York to study Malcolm Forbes' Fabergé collection, the finest in the world, and to contribute his personal work to their growing collection of Faberge memorabilia. For seven years Alexander traveled to New York, coordinated with the Forbes Museum curator, and studied the minute details of the works of Fabergé in person and in private (with armed guards looking on). Today, Vivian Alexander uses the studies of the works of Van Cleef & Arpels and Fabergé to create the most important minudières available in the world. These hard-sided elegant evening purses are uniquely made with fine (.999) silver, beautiful guilloché patterns, translucent enamels and Austrian crystals.
